Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Thank You for the Music!

It has been a busy time for the Music department. On Tuesday 5th December, 104 students performed to a capacity crowd at St Mary's Church. The KS3, senior and chamber choirs all sang, and music were provided by the brass band, string ensemble, clarinet quartet and flute choir. In addition, two GCSE students (Isla and Sara) performed a vocal duet (a mash up of How Far I'll Go and The Climb) and the staff choir performed 'White Hymnal' made famous by Pentatonix. The retiring collection raised £496 which was split between the QEGS Music department and The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

On Friday 8th December the Sixth Form Music Committee arranged their second open mic lunch. Six acts performed ranging from vocal to cornet solos, and the year 10 GCSE band provided a Christmas finale.

National Youth Orchestra

Shivani Jansari, one of our Lower Sixth Form students, successfully auditioned as a viola player with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Each year they admit 160 teenage musicians into their orchestra. The National Youth Orchestra is the UK's leading organisation championing orchestral music as a powerful agent for teenage development and is celebrated internationally as 'the world's greatest orchestra for teenagers’.

Shivani will spend 40 days over the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays rehearsing for three concert series.
