QEGS on the charge in Golf

What a fantastic week it has been for all the students that have represented QEGS in the county school’s golf competitions.

Firstly, on Thursday 7th May Wilf Trestrail (Y11) and Henry Price (Y12) competed in the 0-14 handicap medal competition at Blankney Golf Club. Both boys are extremely talented golfers with Wilf playing off a handicap of 0 and Henry playing off a handicap of 3.9. On the course, Wilf and Henry showed exactly why they play off ridiculously low handicaps. Henry played extremely well, he finished in 6th place with a gross score of 78. However, he was outdone by Wilf, who played an unbelievable round, finishing in 1st place in the boys’ event with a gross score of 71!

The successes didn’t stop there, because of their brilliant individual performances, QEGS managed to win the team event. As a result, QEGS has made it through to the National Finals, which will be held at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in July. Lastly, both Henry and Wilf have now been selected to represent Lincolnshire in the next round, North of England, being played at Beamish golf course on 28th & 29th May.

On Monday 11th May, five of our students competed in the 15-54 Stableford competition at South Kyme Golf Club. Once again, all five students were fantastic and played some excellent golf during the day. However, not to be overshadowed by the achievements on Thursday, QEGS also had a lot of success in this competition. In fact, we got a clean sweep of the awards. The individual boys’ winner was Sebastain Felton (Y7) he won with a score of 52pts, and Amelia Booth (Y9) was the individual girls’ winner with a score of 47pts. Seb was also presented with a cup as he got the highest points total out of all the students that competed. To top this, we also won the team event, which included Emma Bonehill (Y7), Maxx Chapman (Y8) and Amelia Booth. We won the team event with a combined total of 83pts.

The successes from these two events, doesn’t just highlight how talented our students are at golf, but also their dedication and enthusiasm for this sport. Golf is looking very bright at QEGS. Lastly, Mr Cope would like to say a big thankyou to all parents/ grandparents who supported these events. Without them, the students wouldn’t have been able to compete. Please see below all the trophies the students won in both competitions.
